Dark and mysterious, just about the complete opposite of what spring and summer usually encompass, is the latest collection for SS14 from talented Russian-born designer, Alexandre Plokhov. What is irrevocably presented is an experimental collection with much depth. Staple, but memorable pieces support just the right amount of ‘edge.’ With the main component being one of the sturdiest materials, leather, its use is wholly expansive, portrayed in an array of designs. From outerwear such as the belted leather jackets that taper off towards the bottom to the intricate, sleeveless leather vest, the vision for this collection was extensive and successfully achieved. The designer ventured into every type of silhouette; long sleeved, no sleeve, loose, tight, cropped… the diversity is endless.
The unique accent details are quite exquisite as well. We can see widespread stitching techniques throughout, a vast assortment of asymmetrical designs in the hardware, cut-work, and patterns and elaborate panels and inserts sewn all through. Mostly a black color scheme, you can catch a flash of fiery red or crisp white and an obscure graphic tee thrown in as a pleasant twist to the collection, lightening the mood a bit. Also another notable achievement: a tight, drop crotch trouser for the guys… pure brilliance. This is truly a substantial and original collection with nothing left unimagined.
