Throughout history, the inner workings of the human psyche has been a source of in-depth research, and limitless intrigue. Alexandru Nimurad, a Romanian fashion designer, has taken such a compelling subject and developed his conceptual art project ’THE QUIETY INSANITY (that place called home).’ The resultant piece is what one would imagine if Freud had commissioned the likes of Magritte to visually interpret his work. It is essentially a collaborative effort that merges the mediums of film, photography, music, art and fashion. Every creative involved has added their own personal means of expression to challenge our interpretation of what is real, and what is mere fantasy. In the video, model Andrei Șeitan assumes a range of positions and facial expressions. His figure is manipulated by the use of special FX and make-up. He wears Nimurad’s designs: blotched and dip-dyed shirts pay semblance to the ink blot test. With camera shake effects to echo a pulsating mind, and frame mirroring to add to the general sense of confusion and distortion, a true sense of ‘insanity’ is produced.
