During the last few years, the North has gone on to become an incubator of great talent with brands like Barbara I Gongini, Odeur and Acne practically taking over the world with their ultra-functional minimalist fashion. Anne Vest is yet another great example, with her designs being noted for their sharp Nordic-inspired aesthetic and innovative nature. For AW15 the Copenhagen-based designer toys with the idea of clothing as protective gear with heavy coats, oversized tops and linear skirts making their appearance. Layering is what brings together all the looks and what essentially creates the illusion of armour-like garments, similar to those of Norse deities. Despite the voluminous silhouettes, the new line still manages to retain its more feminine side through the use of an array of lavish fabrics including those of shearling, wool, leather and fox fur. In addition, the feature of a more monotone colour palette composed mainly of dark blue, black, white, burgundy and smoky brown, manages to add that final touch towards that ‘femme fatale’ look. Overall, the new offering is one that stays true to the designer’s identity while pushing the brand forward, to a more creative direction.
