Balmain have previewed their Autumn/Winter 2014 collection in a lookbook fronted by male model Andres Hayward as the face of the campaign. With its strong military influences, the collection feels almost like a World War II time warp, but the modern cut and fit of garments give them a fresh 2014 feel. The beauty of the collection is in the details; double-breasted jackets fastened with classic military brass buttons, dog tag necklaces, practical zip-up pockets complete the looks. While the classic khaki and muted brown colour palette may have a very vintage 1930s and ‘40s feel, the tailoring is kept very modern, with slim-fitting trousers and contemporary cut outerwear. Soft leather aviator jackets and knitwear give the collection a much-needed injection of luxury. As we have come to expect from Balmain, the lookbook is fantastic; a mix of the old-fashioned Army man and the modern day fashion-conscious city boy.
