All black everything has perhaps never been so on-point; eliminating distractions of colour and pattern, to allow instead for a subtle interplay between design, texture and form, has an unrivalled timelessness. Faroese label, Barbara I Gongini’s Nordic-inspired, conceptual design and experimental pattern making is showcased to maximum effect in this sombre chroma.
The S/S15 collection is all about texture and cut. Strong linens and jerseys are juxtaposed by the lustrous yet tactile nature of sustainably sourced lamb, goat and horse leathers, which appear uniformly crumpled. Disjointed, asymmetric tailoring sits beside ubiquitous zip and strap detailing, ripped up knees and bandage-like headwear, to rough and raw effect. One imagines the Barbara I Gongini muse to be free-spirited and coolly unconventional; beneath the multi-layered complexity of the collection is an uncompromising functionality and a capacity for easy personalisation, championing the power of individual expression.
