Post-apocalyptic, confusing and hysterical; the collection evokes the state of the world. Everywhere we turn, we are bombarded with news flashes of war, environmental disasters and don’t forget the recent case of the Mayan Doomsday. The global consciousness feels that the world is on the brink of destruction. Yet in the morbidness of the dying models in this lookbook by Bernhard Willhelm, the opulent color schemes present a slice of optimism. The digital and hazy fabric of the clothing reminds us of the internet, which provides us with moments of solace in this state of global panic. In all of the madness that is occurring around us, we find paradise and order in the digital world, creating an entirely new plane of existence. Like the unidentifiable faces and deconstructed models in the lookbook, we are collectively assuming a new identity; an identity void of form, solidity and boundaries.
Don’t look for coats, dresses or jackets in this Spring 2013 collection. What Bernhard Willhelm is selling are ideas and concepts. Has Willhelm’s digital apocalypse struck your fashion nerve, just yet?
