The ‘African Bauhaus’ collection from Brand8 gives rise to an interesting combination of influences: the Danish label marries – really rather well – African textiles and Bauhaus abstract compositions, to create a colourful expression of spring/summer 2015. The aesthetic is, of course (because what isn’t as of late?), notably sporty. An “urban dandy aesthetic for the common people”, or so say the minds behind the collection. I can’t say I’m all that convinced by the large lettering. (Maybe I’ve missed something.) Then again, it feels very Raf Simons, and we all know what big fans anybody who knows and/or likes anything about fashion feels about Raf Simons. On the whole, the collection is full of very easy pieces. The designs have broken little or no new ground. That said, that Brand8 customer that lives for Scandi-cool will doubtless be sold by the minimalist silhouettes, fresh, summery tones and easy-chic appeal.
