Former notorious London clubkid’s cum fashion designers, Sorapol Chawaphatnakul and Daniel Lismore, showcased their distinctive fashion label SORAPOL’S SS14 collection in the surreally elegant surrounds of artist Sou Fujimoto’s pavilion at The Serpentine Gallery, in an ultra glamorous, star studded presentation. The setting reflected a new direction in the ever evolving maturity of the cult favorite designers, who proffered for SS14 a much more sedate, beautifully refined and highly wearable collection that retains their signature flair for the unique and the opulent. A futuristically British Lady was called to mind, a woman who is aware of the importance of elegance and femininity, yet has a taste for individuality and exotic, a romantic with the heart of Boadiccea. Alongside beautifully constructed artisanal dresses, jacket and skirt sets, figure hugging silhouettes on top with with tiers and layers for volume below, all in softly demure colours then boldly accentuated with opulent embellishment, elements of futurism, some heavily bejewelled statement accessories and intricate crown like headwear, SORAPOL actually redefined a very traditionally British look, expertly tempered with the flair of Far Eastern design influences. With a collection fit for Royalty, one that could be expected perhaps were Norman Hartnell to collaborate with Elsa Schiaparelli or Christian Lacroix. The collections piece de resistance as a warrior princess perfect feathered metal corset/basque combination over a long cream sheath skirt.
