Hailing from outer space, Veronika Vesper is on a mission to shake the British music scene with her upbeat music and rebellious style. Citing Bjork, David Bowie and Massive Attack as her main influences, you know this space diva can’t go wrong and her debut single, Suffocate, is proof enough. Synth pop sounds blend in perfect harmony with Veronika’s ethereal vocals which invite us to break free from any restrictions and live life the way we want to – in her case floating in the atmosphere. Too good to go unnoticed huh? Chasseur secured an interview with the artist herself and here is what went down;
Who is Veronika Vesper in five words?
Mysterious, artistic, idiosyncratic space creature.
Suffocate is the title of your debut single. What does this song represent for you and what should fans get out of it?
It represents the courage and determination to break free from restrictions of outer conditions, which can come in the form of strict parents (who want you to be someone different than you are ), job you are not happy in or a relationship you feel suffocated in. I hope it will help them to live through the emotion of being held back by something in their lives and liberate themselves from it.
The man behind numerous successful hits for artists like Sia, Kevin Malpass, is the producer behind your new venture. How would you describe working with him?
Working with Kevin on the artistic side of things is absolutely wonderful, because he totally gets me as an artist and is a musical genius himself. We both come from classical music backgrounds and overlap to electronic music, so that gives us loads of options and sound palettes to create with. I’m really grateful that Kevin gave me the space and support to experiment with my vocal and helped me to define my sound. I really appreciate that he’s happy to take my perfectionistic comments and always go those extra few miles to get a tune from 95% to 110%. He’s not scared to experiment, be different and do something new. It’s a truly unique collaboration and I can’t wait to share the album with you.
Both your music and personal style feature many influences from space. What’s the story behind that?
Memories from home.
Where can one find you these days?
Mainly in the studio or in my space pod!
