‘Practical elegance.’ This is how Florent Coltesse identifies his eponymous label’s aesthetic and mantra – a fine balance between creative ingenuity and a respect for comfort and ease, it would seem. The brand has established itself over the last few seasons as a reliable purveyor of simple cuts and chic menswear options, with an onus on high-quality attention to detail and finish. Fabrics are sourced from Italy and Japan before undergoing meticulous inspection and approval from the company’s founder himself; garments are then crafted in the brand’s native Paris. Spring/summer ’14 sees the first ‘complete wardrobe’ from Coltesse. The quietly cool vibe is extended to sharp shapes and gentle hues that are said to represent a rather mineral spirit, a symbol for the designer’s affiliation with pure materials. The collection boasts a fair gamut of basics and instant classics, but it is arguably this quietude that – despite quite reasonable prices – really renders such a strong sense of luxury.
