CRES. E DIM. comes from the musical term ‘crescendo e diminuendo’, with the meaning of ‘CRES’ been ‘getting gradually louder,‘ while DIM means ‘getting gradually softer’ and this is the concept which designer Hongbum Kim used to inspire the identity of his fashion label. His attitude to his looks includes juxtaposing the image of a river flowing in a natural fashion against powerful colour, shapes and cuts.
For Autumn/Winter 2013, the label’s collection of extraordinary pieces is called, “Secondary Nature”. It explores the mystery of nature via various ways utilizing technology and been influenced by Helmut Newton and Tokujin Yoshioka. In terms of the colour palette, it is mostly composed of black, grey and white with inflections of blue. Using these colours Hongbum Kim has created many different pieces including a very interesting white dress with space-like sleeves and a circle of space on the front of the dress. It is an inventive take on the monochrome look. For the less adventurous there is a simple black dress paired with a matching hat, shoes and socks.
