Carving its own aesthetic against the burgeoning luxury street wear scene, DA.INKE invents the urban samurai for its dark A/W15 collection. Finding inspiration in Japan, especially from Manga, the London-based label has created a highly conceptualised, monochromatic uniform to fit its enigmatic warrior’s multiple guises. ‘1% Urban Samurai’ comprises longline, oversized and multilayered street wear silhouettes, embellished with choice additions of print and type. High tech materials are, of course, at home in this futuristic scheme; thermo-adhesive patches form textural contrasts against substantial, matte fabrics, combining with print to lift the sombre colour palette. Cut, colour and print coexist in complete balance- a sterling example being the complimentary forms of curved drop-hemlines and accurately tailored drop-crotch harem pants. Harmony, proportion and symmetry are forever the pursuits of designers, Lorenzo Romani and Mauro Rubui. If DA.INKE A/W15 is 1% urban samurai, it has to be 99% innovative design.
