Dahui Li is much like the tortoise in Aesop’s Classic fable. After graduating from the Columbus College of Art and Design, rather than race ahead hare-like, Dahui Li spent time meticulously per-fecting his craft. The designer interned in both London and New York, for the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Jill Stuart and Luetton Postle, before starting his own label.
This “slow and steady wins the race” approach is evident in his work. The Dahui Li S/S ’15 collec-tion looks as if it were conscientiously thought out. The sheer layers of colour that combine to make dresses and skirts have been carefully selected; working harmoniously to create seamless garments. The patterns on jackets and jumpers are individualistic and not too outspoken, ensuring that they complement the rest of the line, rather than appearing incongruous.
Dahui Li’s designs are “curated to be worn as an expression of one self.” From elegant, fragile dresses, to sensual bandeau tops, to clean collared shirts and slim fit trousers; there is a look for every woman to identify with. In essence, anyone who sports Dahui Li’s pieces, just like the tortoise, will feel like a winner.
