The first thing that one notices when confronted with the work of David Brask, a young Swedish designer fresh out of Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm, is the fluent sexual vibe of his creations. As a storyteller, he creates a fashion universe of his own using an aesthetic vocabulary that brings to mind the works of Rei Kawakubo, the golden chaotic sculptures of Richard Serra and the bloody gothic Cremaster cycle of Matthew Barney. Ropes and dark fabrics together form the pieces of his stories that tell us about ‘Colossus’ – an interesting sculptural line that has a conceptual sense and simulates the human experience itself in a deeper poetic level.
