It is always exciting to see that a simplistic (shall we say minimalist?) form has been complemented by an interesting textile. In many cases it is a balance that ought to be struck. This collection from Hanger, for all its quiet (read: suitably chic) shapes, is most impressive for its innovative use of latex which renders a dimension of intrigue among otherwise already very cool pieces. Inspired by the dense quality of oil and its habit for stacking murkily on coastlines, the autumn/winter offering is by all means dark. Conceptually and literally speaking, certainly darker than the preceding spring/summer collection. Nevertheless, each look is largely wearable and even rather fresh in the fabric novelty and clean, uncomplicated designs. It is arguably a relatively simple recipe, but one which predicates designer Claire Yurika Davis’ continued success: a gentle colour palette and clean cuts, with the right amount of juxtaposition. And oh how the fash’ world will always adore juxtaposition — especially when executed as immaculately as has been achieved here.
