The art of the ‘gogo boy’, so peculiarly perfected in New York City, is one that often harbours, fosters and supports unique creativity. Stand up Matthew Camp, the King of the Gogo Boys of New York City, who just also happens to be a talented designer with his own fashion atelier; ‘Matthew Camp Designs’. Specialising in custom leather for men and women, Camp designs stunning, ergonomic pieces with a hard urban edge that are slick and, naturally, very very sexy. Being a phenomena that is so very ‘New York’ (his story is one which would have been possible in few other places on this Earth), Camp’s work is inspired by the city that never sleeps rich nightlife and cultural heritage, he is also a veteran of that legendary downtown bastion; the emporium of designer Patricia Field. His designs reflect this and his jackets are constructed by hand using techniques influenced by historical cultures giving them a “future primitive” aesthetic, with a defiantly masculine perspective which he intends for people interested in fashion as a lifestyle, that transcends trend.
Camp brings to New York what Unconditional have brought to London, what Skingraft have brought to Los Angeles, a label inspire by and, for, the unique denizens of the city itself. Not content with his domination of nightlife and strong first steps into the fashion world, Matthew also has a parfum, rather cheekily callled “8.5”, launching this month.
