After working for Marcel Ostertag- a fellow designer who also hails from Munich- Anja Pawlik launched her own label in February 2011. Entitled J´ai mal à la tête which directly translates to ‘I have a headache,’this statement could indeed have some truth in it, for a young designer brimming with such fresh and experimental ideas. ‘It’s always in my head and everywhere with me’ Pawlik says of the notion behind her collections. Claiming to not work according to a certain concept; Pawlik explains that ‘I am not inspired by a certain topic or question but normally by all impressions I am exposed to.’ This alternative approach to the design process can be directly cited within her work. Pawlik’s pieces are rife with individualistic quirks: from midriff drawstring detailing to erratically placed zips. The designer also bestows her own unique flair on some of the most prevalent trends of A/W 14: Jackets and jumpers feature dip-dye fur and fractional quilting. With a penchant for burnt orange, as it appears in this collection and every preceding A/W offering from the designer, pale grey, midnight navy and Winter cream also dominate colour-wise.
