Youthful rebellion and subversive cultures serve as the catalyst behind Komakino’s dissident aesthetic but for their forthcoming SS16 collection, the New York based brand has taken direction from years gone by. In an attempt to redefine the utilitarian silhouettes of the 40s and 50s, designer Frederico Capalbo fuses these iconic shapes with current streetwear influences. Tailored contours and exaggerated lines meet loose jersey tops and boxy nylon jackets in pursuit of a collection founded in construction and defined by a generation of outsiders. This season’s catalyst sees the modernisation of traditional, structured forms into skilfully constructed work wear and identifies Komakino as adept pioneers in the field of culturally led fashion.
