“Trapped in their insolence, unable to communicate with their following, they remain isolated.” These words serve as an introduction to the latest offering of Leon Louis, which is dedicated to a new hybrid of underdogs that – surprisingly – take the form of modern-day dandies. One would think that such an oxymoron cannot simply exist but the innovative Danish designer, managed to do just that by brilliantly injecting some rebellious, punk-rock spirit to tailored menswear, all while shying away from stereotypical street-oriented aesthetics. That was achieved through giving most pieces a rough, almost unfinished look while keeping their basic forms highly structural. A good example includes a blazer where threads can be seen hanging from both the edges of the sleeves and the hemline, yet the design itself is almost flawless with cuts being very symmetrical. Adding to the overall ‘anarchic’ effect is also the choice of a strictly monochrome and dark palette where only certain hues of green manage to add a splash of colour – giving pieces a more season-appropriate edge.
