Of all the amazing talents showing at the newly minted London Collections: Men, which is undeniably becoming one of, if not the major players on the international menswear circuit, Alex Mattsson is the man who perhaps embodies the Chasseur ethos and spirit the most. Mattsson is all things urban and street, a man of raw talent and unique vision that is oh so very London, he ranks as one of this cities hottest emerging menswear names. The buzz and anticipation for his AW13 presentation amongst the underground who’s who of London’s fashion taste makers is testimony to this designers talent; he has garnered an enviable cult following. In conjunction with Red Bull Catwalk Studio and partnered with Brooklyn’s hottest musical sensations of the moment; rappers Zebra Katz and Njedda Redd Foxx who in the coup of London Collections: Men flew in especially to preform live at Mattsson’s presentation (wearing the designers creations no less, the pair also collaborated with the designer on a fashion film and soundtrack for AW13), Alex Mattsson truly wowed us.
AW13 was raw, dark, edgy and industrial, the palette was almost completely black. Tattooed rough and ready banjee boy models, dark angels in disguise, rocked studded hooded tops, black biker jackets, baggy shorts, denim and dungarees and exaggerated pin stripe tailoring, accessorised with snap back caps whose upturned bills sport Mattsson’s winged logo, leather gloves, branded socks and leather backpacks. The result was a futuristic gangsters uniform in keeping with Mattsson’s love of re-inventing sub cultural aesthetics. If the classic ‘Warriors’ movie were to be re imagined today, this is what the cast would be wearing.
