The damned came out to play at the Alexander McQueen AW14 presentation which took place at a distressed, characteristic church hall in the heart of London. From jet black high-rolled collars, grey gingham jumpers, belted trenches and striking leather jackets, to linear monochrome prints, gothic two-piece suits and the fashion house’ trademark use of Tartan, each piece proved just how far the colour black could go; It is safe to say, each look topped its predecessor despite the limited colour palette. You could say it left more space for some exciting plays on various fabrics, prints and animal skins! Black feathered head-pieces adorned the heads of the ‘vampires’ and ‘hawks’ as they descended, some in heavy jackets lined with dark sheep skin. Gold, metallic collars linked to gothic black shirts made for a well-blended contrast, not to mention the unexpected pink and black check print adding variation and softness to the palette and feel of the overall collection.
