YMC may not stand out or particularly wow on the oft flamboyant London scene, but what they do is make extremely wearable clothing that represents a uniquely British form of modern construction. Classics are the order of the day at YMC; heritage and workwear for the Nineties Indie boys who have since grown up, given up on the ‘Champagne Supernova’ and become successful, yet still like to adhere to a particular ‘look’. Louche tailoring and denim, cagoules, sturdy hard wearing peacoats, an excellent star spangled Harrington jacket, knitwear and particularly chunky fishermen’s sweaters, where YMC kept the staple male basic interesting with quirky design touches such as hand/glove shaped pockets on sweaters, with smartened up baseball caps for grown ups, all in navies or warm autumnal colours. It’s all very British, perhaps not the ‘British’ most people call to mind when considering traditional British style, but rather a ‘New British’ for the everyday man who’s not too flash, but likes to look good and invest his hard earned cash in quality, well designed and crafted garments.
