The Topman Design show is one, we always look forward attending each season. It’s not about the designs so much as it is about understanding new trends and spotting them prior to their time. That has always been the case with the leading British retailer, until now that is. The new SS15 line failed to impress and no it was not due to the overdone nerd-chic theme but the actual lack of creativity in both print and design. Silhouettes were inspired by previous decades with direct influences from the 70s being evident in all suits and denims while most shirts and knitwear had a distinct 90s feeling to them. Keeping things retro, floral prints were also heavily featured but added nothing fresh or exciting. Playing it safe is never an option when London is crawling with new talent such as the likes of James Long, KTZ and Christopher Shannon. Hopefully next season will remind us again why we love Topman so much.
