Chasseur attended Tom Ford’s London Fashion Week AW14’ show this season, and as you can already guess, the MAN did not disappoint, he nailed it. One of LFW’s most anticipated shows, Mr. Ford drew an A-list attendance including actors Bradley Cooper and James Corden, and of course fashion’s reigning queens; Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld, for a show dominated by the crème de la crème of modelling. Supermodels Joan Smalls, Liberty Ross, Stella Tennant, Karen Elson and Suki Waterhouse all stomped the designer’s catwalk.
London living has clearly had an effect on Tom Ford, and the energy and influence of this vibrant city was evident. It worked surprisingly well contrasting with influences from the designers own Western American roots; sporty looks straight from the streets of London paired perfectly with cowboy boots. There were nods to the Sixties spirit of Carnaby Street culture, and his American heritage in prairie style dresses. Ford’s AW14 show was more youthful than in the past, yet also more understated (another influence of British life perhaps, where flashy ‘in your face’ is still considered crude in all the right circles), interspersed with such new takes on the the classic Tom Ford aesthetic, yet monochrome still ruled, broken occasionally with sequined jersey, animal prints, reds and lavish furs injecting some high octane glamour, into an otherwise sombre collection that was sleekly elegant, typically figure hugging, and ultra luxe.
The designer also showed his sense of humour, with an irreverent nod to Jay-Z and the now infamous “I DON’T pop molly, I rock Tom Ford, International bring back the Concorde, numbers don’t lie, check the scoreboard…”. Ford rather ingeniously knocked off the knock off, and sent two football sequined jersey dresses (one black, one red) down the runway, emblazoned with the number ’61’ above ‘Molly’ which was firmly crossed, out in a play on the fake shirts which Jay-Z himself has worn. Now if only Miley had been available to walk ..
