Alessia Prekop’s SS14 collection was one quite at odds with the designer herself’s rock chic persona. She presented a series of ultra feminine, structured looks with a futuristic bent that show clear talent and potential. A delicate yet sharp take on sports luxe, this modernist collection was power dressing at it’s best. Past collections from Italian born Prekop have focused on a noirist avant garde silhouette that this season she softens by adding a sensual femininity to her designs; this is a designer who like most Italian’s, clearly knows the beauty of the female form, and to how best accentuate a woman’s body.
Clean lines and architectural shapes give the inspiration for a 21st Century Valley Of The Dolls look, presented in creams, pinks, nudes and monochrome, Prekop goes for an understated yet sure luxury a la Giorgio Armani, with youthful elements thrown in such as bared mid drifts via cropped topped and cut away panels. Prekop shows clearly she is a technical designer, cleverly playing with contrasting shape and form, layers and textures for a a hi-def 3-D effect shown for example through her domed shoulders and cocoon sleeves; perhaps what Coco Chanel may have found appealing were she alive today.
