For AW13, design duo Jena Theo made an abrupt about face, presenting a 90’s influenced collection that was very of the now, one which expertly melded shades of streetwear and rave culture, married with highly wearable neo-classic sportswear pieces. In shape and form and the bright colour blocking the influence of Norma Kamali, Donna Karan and even Stephen Sprouse (in pop arty graphics and prints) is evident in this bold, youthful collection. Crop tops, zippered hooded tops and billowing smiley face tees, with a louche grunge aspect achieved through oversized shapes in separates, which is then offset with almost architectural structure on outerwear, resulting in some stunning jacket designs are what give the new AW13 collection its rare high end streetwear status. Footwear was a chunky, abstract cross between gogo boots and rave couture clubwear style shoes that were tough yet pretty. The design duo’s colour palette is a kaleidoscope of startling fuschia, monochrome and metallics and technicolour prints; a thoroughly modern aesthetic for London’s urban girls.
