How much time do we really need to express an idea? How many stories can 250 pixels say? The Animation Sequence Project, organized by Dutch animation studio in60seconds has set out to find the answer to such questions by running an exciting but also challenging animation contest for artists who are eager to share their work with the world. The only instructions that artists should follow, is to start their animation with a 250 pixels square in the middle of the screen, and use only 10 seconds to tell their story. In this way, and in a world where everything happens fast, in60seconds studio chooses to give speed a creative aspect. Artists are asked to forget any kind of concrete structures they have in mind, and use their imagination, as the square can become anything they want. We liked very much the inspired submission of Markus Magnusson from Sweden, entitled ‘Cat Mayhem’. In this animation the square becomes a tree and the protagonists are a S.W.A.T team, a little girl, some firefighters, spider-man, and many more cat-like characters! All submitted animations can be found on-line, but those standing out will form a three- minute video that will be presented in some of the top animation festivals of the world. We hope that Animation Sequence Project will be the beginning of many imaginative works, and may the best win!
