For S/S ’15, Nicola Formichetti puts two fingers up to the age old truism of baby pink for girls and baby blue for boys. The latest offering from the designer’s line NICOPANDA, is intended for those unconcerned by gender and age formalities.
Following the likes of J.W. Anderson and Astrid Andersen; his garments challenge gender stereotypes. “This is a collection for a try-anything culture, ready to mix it up,” says Formichetti, “You’re either brave enough to wear it, or you’re not”. His garments may be marketed as unisex, but it’s a far more interesting sight to see grown men in caps-cum-baby bonnets: complete with strings of pearls, and decorative bows. There’s a distinct punk feel, thanks to the incorporation of creepers and mesh detailing; but oversized hoodies and relaxed joggers add an urbanite, street edge. By injecting a few all black looks, Formichetti manages to evade falling in to the pastels for Spring trap. In want of a better word, the collection is very pretty- welcome to Little Bo Peep does tomboy.
