Niels Peeraer is a Belgian fashion designer known for his strong and personal aesthetic as well as his high level of craftsmanship. In his AW13 collection one can find masculine and feminine lines, rough material against light designs shaped in hearts and flowers, creating a new vision by bringing an innocent and romantic happiness to everyday life. His materials along with his color palette are very specific; vegetable tanned leathers and brass fittings in nude and grey hues. With his latest collection he pays tribute to both Chinese and Japanese historical references of headdress. “Hua Dan” stands for a very lively character from Beijing Opera, standing for cuteness and innocence. “Calyx” is the supportive part of a flower carrying the petals. “Hua alos” means flower/blossom which is the main inspiration of the collection. “Kabuto” is used as a reference to the Japanese samurai head gear. “Hua Dan Calyx” was used by a young female character in Beijing Opera. Every collection is a fairytale and we could not expect anything less from this one either.
