A fresh addition to the flourishing and vibrant Johannesburg fashion scene, OATH is one of South Africa’s most exciting young brands. An original take on the sportswear zeitgeist, the SS15/16 collection has succeeded in marrying numerous athletic elements in the most decisive and visually arresting of manners. Rather than cluttering the garments with colour and excessive detailing, the pieces are drawn into cohesion by a singular, monochrome, aquatic print- adding a textural dimension. Casting our eyes over the dynamic lookbook, triathlon sports immediately spring to mind; swim, cycling and running gear- as well as some pared down staples- have been given a directional makeover. Perhaps the most striking example is the one-piece lovechild of a dungaree and a cycling bib short.
The self-proclaimed young and ‘dope’ OATH came to life after founder, Rich Mnisi won the Joburg AFI Fastrack 2014, and has since made its mark for its progressive, yet accessible aesthetic- epitomising Jo’burg’s emerging status as one of the world’s hippest fashion capitals.
