Free-flowing and minimalistic, the central focus of the Simon Ekrelius S/S15 collection is easily discerned. Liberty is manifested in the form of relaxed tailoring, revealing panels and fluid fabrics, evoking a carefree femininity. The brand’s trademark leitmotif of contrast- most significantly between manmade and natural- is just as apparent, epitomised by the design reference to the Peppered Moth. Natural fabrics such as silk, wool and cotton are used in conjunction with polyester, vinyl and digital prints, whilst architectural or subtly asymmetric cuts are juxtaposed by lightweight, gauzy panels.
The designer’s monochrome collection comprises straight cut dresses, panelled blouses and boyfriend style garments such as an ensemble of an oversized blazer and wide-cut shorts. Printed pieces add a textural element; the prints, both digital and hand-painted, recall the irregular beauty of the Milky Way, or the speckles of an eggshell, working a charming ‘grit’ into the mix.
