Controversially artistic, slightly DIY but beautifully simplistic and creative – Aaron Mcelroy photographs the human figure, demonstrating the use of over exposure and selecting specific areas of the human body to focus upon. His photography is very minimal but the almost retrospective and historic look that his imagery exudes, forces a deeper meaning upon the image. These signifiers, that can be deconstructed when analysing the image, are what creates a narrative. Therefore, the simple photograph of a girl bent over with her hair down and leaning forward, her back arched, could have a deeper meaning (which is very much available for the individual to interpret).
Other art that he has included within this collection of work includes- natural shots of plants and flowers, a flamingo and close ups/long shots of stone. Although his work is all titled ‘Untitled’ (the irony of that statement), he manages to create this feeling of ‘natural form’. He photographs the elements of life that still exist when the man made forms are stripped away. The idea that these images are bunched together as one group, is perhaps (and more likely than not) an intentional choice; Mcelroy has created an aesthetic which feels very earthy, natural and stripped of materialism.
