Urs Fischer is a famous artist, working in many different artistic fields, and especially loved by the Greek audience who became familiar with him through the Dakis Joannou collection and his exhibition at Hydra, last summer. Humor, as well as the notion of paradox, have always played a very important role in Fischer’s work, as he likes to comment sarcastically on today’s society through his work. His portraits featuring covered faces are of course a great example of the humor we are referring to. Iconic men and women are covered by weird objects such as boiled eggs, bananas, pipes and cigarettes, in a way the faces become distorted and we cannot distinguish the look or the expression of the person behind. It is like there are many little unimportant things that come between people and make their communication very difficult. Fischer’s work is worth a deeper look as it is certain that we will come across his in the artistic scene many more times in the future.
