Photography is an art form that traditionally took inspiration from painting, in the modern era, technology married with the individual imagination of the photographer elevate this visual art form to entirely new levels. Kyle Thompson is a gifted, self taught young photographer who excels in his field, allowing his imagination to run wild creating visually and uncannily stunning images of rare depth and character that tell untold hidden stories. They reflect both the photographer himself, the world around him and how he sees it; Kyle uses his art to depict in a ‘real life’ form, stories and scenes that he conjures inside his own imagination, he is if you will, a writer, who uses his camera in the stead of a pen.
Thompson goes to great lengths to achieve the perfect shot, even so far as to climbing a mountain in Bolivia, and uses high and low (such as a bag of flour) technology in equal measure to achieve his unique and striking images which are rapidly earning this young man a name amongst his peers and in the industry alike as a contemporary surrealist. Thompson manages to capture in one single image, the great tradition of storytelling that one would as-sociate with Tolkien ad his ilk, all that sense of adventure that such novels elicit in the reader, indeed the first ‘story’ that often springs to mind upon viewing Thompson’s work is that of ‘Gulliver’s Travels’. Take a look for yourself, and allow yourself to be taken away.
