Tom Rebl’s SS14 menswear collection is a very edgy experimentation with the idea of grunge and tonal exploration. Whilst many of the garments are alien like, bold and almost androgynous, others are masculine and very accessible/wearable. This versatility is what helps Rebl to stand out as an artistic menswear designer.
Leather, over accessorising, feminised ornamentation, clean cut suits, white draped garments, synched waists, strong prints, shiny fabrics, rippling effect hats, mirrored goggles .. you can expect to witness it all within this collection. The harem pants of yesteryear are scrapped. It’s now all about draping, femininity and creating a more androgynous male form by draping the lower figure with a long and sarong like skirt. Whilst the collection does embrace grey, black and white with open arms, it also includes shades of cream, navy, blues and the inclusion of other colours within these white and black garments.
Besides the fabrics and the colour palette used to create this SS collection, it is important to distinguish the importance of upraised and textural fabrics, and the manipulation of these fabrics. Tom Rebl has contoured and altered these original fabrics, creating this both texturally and aesthetically pleasing range of garments. This, combined with his love for layering and accessorising the bold, seamlessly finished garments, is what pushes him into the contemporary eye as a bold and original designer. Rebl’s ability to enthuse uniqueness and exclusivity through his designs are pivotal in the process of global appreciation.
