We ran into Larry Tee of London based streetwear brand TZUJI and were lucky enough to get a view of his latest, and strongest, collection to date plus a few words on just what the collections represents!
Tell us about the inspiration behind this collection?
The TZUJI AW15 collection was inspired by the scene that happened in the late 90s and early noughties at my electroclash parties and festivals in New York.
How would you describe the Electroclash scene to the uninitiated?
Electroclash music and the corresponding style at that time was a punch in the nose to mainstream culture and was worn by the cool kids that didn’t want to all look the same.
The AW15 TZUJI collection is refreshingly anti-Normcore, something Larry Tee has never been! He is a man with his finger on the pulse and always ready to challenge the status quo and the Electroclash collection is very that, and represents almost a cultural full circle. As Tee says;
“I loved the bratty way the kids wore their punk attitude and the way they didn’t want to be all smiley. I was feeling like I needed some of that creative DIY spirit again and so I exaggerated a lot of the little details that were around back then, like the new wave broken lips and red slashes and the monochrome punched up black and white and red. And the slogans on the jumpsuits and sweatshirts like ‘Today is a good day to leave me alone’ ‘ Happily never after’ and ‘I love you because we hate the same things’ are just plain miserable and super funny to me. It was my most fun collection to make!”
