Save the humans. I can’t be sure what we’re saving them from, but equally I can’t say that that’s all that important. Perhaps it’s from the stark minimalism that so many are turning to as of late. Let’s be fair – recent seasons have served to establish two very distinct schools of thought, aesthetically speaking, and even widen the gap between them. We appear to be witnessing an intense rivalry between less-is-more thinking and its louder, brasher younger sibling, the much-much-more-is-more philosophy. No prizes for guessing which camp Tzuji’s SS15 ‘SAVE THE HUMANS’ collection is siding with.
And for all of its opinion-dividing glory, it certainly ticks the box it intends to tick with voraciousness. There’s a very of-the-moment throwback to the ’90s and even the early ’00s in the kaleidoscopic colourways, at times reminiscent of tie-dye and psychedelic almost to brain-freezing levels. Certain pieces lean towards a Japanese ideal, what with the cartoon prints and overtone of loudness, which is certainly on point within a greater discussion about Japan’s fashion capacities. And finally the mesh: we love mesh, don’t we? The sporty, technical fabric seems to have become somewhat of a favourite for everybody in the last couple of years. And why not?
