When George Lucas first developed Star Wars, he probably didn’t expect it would grow to become one of the largest media franchises in history. Nor was he likely to anticipate that one day, the iconic sci-fi characters of his original trilogy, would pattern select products from Californian skateboard shoemakers Vans. The Vans x Star Wars collaboration, is as fantastical as the film series itself. Trilogy favourites Boba Fett and Yoda combine with signature Vans prints to adorn classic trainers, rucksacks and caps. It’s a laid-back collection, with a distinctive cult edge. Just as the Star Wars films galvanised follow up projects; the Vans x Star wars partnership inspired one of its own designers, to embark upon his own venture. A South Korean artist who goes by the name of Coolrain Lee, has created several Vans x Star Wars figurines. A miniature suited statuette with a plasticised Darth Vader head comes complete with a Vans x Star Wars tie and pair of shoes. There are even metallic storm troopers: seated on their own small-scale bench, with a Vans x Star Wars skateboard positioned close by. The creations are so progressive and idiosyncratic; that they look like they originate from a galaxy far, far away.
