The Vibe Johansson S/S ’15 collection ‘COIL,’ is an expression of fluidity and movement. Throughout the look book, models appear caught in action- as if they are attempting dance, or a form of temperate martial art. The theme of mobility also emanates from the garments. Hemlines have been dropped, on both top and bottom halves, to create outfits that flow from one piece to another with no division. Fabrics hang from limbs; draping and curving away from the body to create extended silhouettes. It is indeed as the brand proclaims, a ‘return[s] to the anatomy of exoskeletons.’ Flowing materials such as linen, silk and poplin have been treated with Japanese techniques like Boro and Saki-Ori to create structural pieces. Exclusively working in monochrome: the eye is not drawn to colour but instead fixates upon the garment construction. Outfits as concordant as music and as meandrous as water, are militant and yet delicately feminine.
