Well ski-wear just got chicer. It’s interesting, this ever-increasing merge between sportswear and high fashion. So often is it the case as of late that the two ideals are inextricably linked, it can be difficult to decipher a designer’s intentions. This autumn/winter collection from Wanda Nylon serves to offer a suitably stylish sartorial aesthetic for an après-ski setting, while its pieces are of course by no means limited to the context of the slopes. Perhaps that’s what is so magnificent about contemporary fashion design: contextual limitations seemingly have less and less of a presence, thus presenting and perpetuating fewer and fewer conventional standards. (This argument resonates much more loudly with the first trouser suits for women and – much farther along the timeline – sheer fabrics and smocks for men, but it’s interesting to see the same idea at play here.) While gold lamé offers iridescence and pizzazz, more easily wearable separates and outerwear inform urban codes with linear, graphic designs and quilted textiles. The standout pieces, however, are those brilliant transparent pieces, which demonstrate the brand’s penchant for innovation. What’s more, they are far from gimmicky. There’s that limitless context we were talking about then.
