Intellectual designers often get the better of themselves. They can be somewhat distracted, let’s say, by a concept and forget to give their work the fashion context it requires. Asger Juel Larsen seems to have avoided the pitfall. Despite abstract ideas at play throughout the story of the SS15 collection, pieces are largely wearable and the overall look is very cool. There’s a careful balance between tailoring and sportswear, and a keen attention to detail that manifests itself in stud detailing and very of-the-moment zips. This hard edge to the collection is contrasted with raw hems and loose-fitting knits. It’s impressive to witness a young designer, and a self-professed storyteller, achieve his vision in a way that translates to a commercially viable brand. It’s important and, what’s more, it’s rare.
