For Balmain’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, creative director Olivier Rousteing confesses to have been inspired by today’s stylish men who confidently mix different looks from past eras and street cultures. He calls them the “new aristocrats”. The French designer exhibits yet again his taste for the exquisite. You can tell by the lavish materials used such as leather, silk, rich velvet and cashmere for classic pieces like cardigans, joggers and smoking jackets. The result are clothes that look like casual evening wear with primarily oversized silhouettes. Picture preppy private school boys in the 90’s who listen to hip hop music. The fondness of both flair and comfort is showcased through luxurious but relaxed style. Some of the pieces could be a little quaint, time will tell if we’ll be seeing men wearing them on a daily basis. Though it may just be the little break we need from the all-black minimalist clean cuts we’re seeing a lot today.
