Strong, dark clean cut lines and a love for leather manipulation, what more could we ask for? The AW14 Byungmun Seo collection is grungey but classic and strong but feminine in places. It cleverly blends the boundaries between male and female body dressing and hones in on the current grunge appeal – specifically a love for leather and layering. Whilst the monochromatic palette suggests a notion of exclusivity in a luxurious way, the tailoring enhances this classic palette by further suggesting the idea of clean cut lines and the use of a large range of diverse and luxurious fabrics. A number of these fabrics are cleverly incorporated into each design, through detailed needlework and the use of overlapping materials.
Garments vary from slouched, harem pants; to seamed suit jackets; to long jumpers with cut out edges; and white high neck clinging jackets. By incorporating an essence of constraint and unnatural body shaping into the collection, Byungmun Seo has managed to tailor the garments to enhance certain aspects of the male body (usually the chest). High neck garments suggest exclusivity and this idea of high fashion; however, many of garments within the collection are accessible on a global scale.
