Born in Bow in the East End of London Harry Hammond went on to become the first great photographer of Rock’n’Roll, chronicling the emergence of the music genre in post-war Britain. From Roy Orbison and Ella Fitzgerald to Cliff Richard and Shirley Bassey, no-one escaped his restless lens. Now viewers get the chance to revisit his work through a photographic display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Halfway to Paradise features more than 60 portraits, behind the scenes and performance shots of leading musicians in the 1950s and 1960s.
The exhibition is free and will remain open till March 3, 2013.
