Experimentation is everything for young British designer, Joseph Turvey. Each collection is a mixed media masterpiece, incorporating playful hand-crafted sewing and drawing techniques, inventive pattern cutting and creative story-telling into the most original of street/sports-luxe aesthetics. The A/W15 collection is perfectly imperfect; tangibly raw edges, incongruous appliqué patches and puckered stitches are ingeniously thought-out and deliciously down-to-earth. Eerie imagery hints at a sinister tale, enhanced by the garments’ juxtaposing fleshy, metallic and inky tones- a nod towards Clive Barker’s character, Buttonface. An uplifting note comes in the flowing form of lightweight fabrics and lace, layered with opaque tops or unexpectedly fashioned into trousers. Transparent materials are an undeniable Joseph Turvey signature; appropriated for the male form, lace, mesh and sheer panels are unexpectedly masculine- a clever textural addition.
