Cult London favourite Katie Eary certainly knows how to take a pop cultural zeitgeist and make it her own! Vampires, psychedelic cyber gangster vampires from a futuristic LA, were the order of the day for Eary at her AW13 London Collections: Men show. In a riot of black splashed with colour and kitsch prints, Eary explored the relationship between serial killers and vampires, an adage to her own obsession with the horror genre that was a thoroughly modern testimony to the beautiful undead. The collection conjured images of Bret Easton Ellis’ ‘American Psycho’ and the bold and beautiful young characters of the ‘The Informers’ meshed with vampire film franchise Blade.
The collection is predominantly lux sportswear, tough street ready pieces built up around omnipotent black with shocking pink floral prints and midnight blue thrown into the mix for a visual and arresting effect. Eary also tries her hand at introducing tailoring with this collection with a loose, boxy silhouette, showing us just what she is capable of as a designer. We particularly loved the stitched neoprene trousers and leather sleeved jackets; the use of neoprene, denim, chiffon and mohair created variety in the collection, and the playful use of textures helps to meld the extremes of classic and contemporary.
London’s new alterna goddess Katie Eary nailed it, her fanged models also sported some serious sunglasses, chunky gold ‘gangster’ chain necklaces, and retro 90’s style Nike ID Air Jordan ‘Spiikes’ each a contemporary and complimentary touch. Killed it, no pun intended!
