Jewellery label MANIAMANIA was only founded in 2009 but already their daring bohemian jewellery have caused waves in the style world. The brand’s aim is to bring their customer to another place and time when they wear their jewellery. This place could be real or a figment of the customer’s imagination. Pieces have been inspired by Ancient Egypt as well as the cults from the 1960s but for their latest collection MANIAMANIA have drawn on inspiration from The Hanging Gardens of Babylon. “Our whole idea is about transformation”, says Tamila Purvis who is one half of the duo behind the brand. And this season, Purvis and her design partner Melanie Kamsler have brought this concept into their collection to great effect once again with features such as their signature silver and brass with an antique feel moulded into pieces like cuffs, necklaces, earrings and statement rings which are oversized and decorated with faceted crystals.
The collection was also heavily influenced by silent movie star and striking beauty Theda Bara. Purvis says that both her and Kamsler were influenced by her transformation from “Cincinnati girl to femme fatale, or exotic Arabian princess”. Every element of their latest offering has an exotic element to it allowing customers the chance to be unique. The Bara necklace is one extraordinary example of this. It is a chunky brass necklace with a well-defined quartz bar. It is like a piece of art as well as a piece of jewellery. It is truly stunning”. So if you want to escape to a dream-like state in your own world of fantasy this season, don’t delay MANIAMANIA’s new collection just could be what you are looking for.
