Has there ever been a collection from McQ or from the Alexander McQueen lines that has not been edgy, current or cool? The answer must surely be a resounding “No”. The collection for Spring 2015 is another great one. For next Spring, Sarah Burton continues to honour the spirit of Alexander McQueen by focusing on destruction and disruption. Drawing on inspiration from rave culture and Arab travellers, artist Fergus Purcell (a.k.a. Fergadelic) has provided print that is worked through the collection and lends an air of cult 70s & 80s punk. The Arab tones come via the way of the keffiyeh scarf – perhaps a political statement on the current situation in Palestine and the Middle East.
As ever with McQ, the clothes are achingly cool. Metallic, print and sophisticated tailoring all come together to create an easy elegance that still feels street and appropriate for the vagabond. Oversized, patchwork sweaters are teamed with socks and sandals for a look that is reminiscent of a hung-over student but there are bombers and tailored trousers too for an altogether smarter feel.
