UY is a German based label, and the creative lovechild of Idan Gilony from Tel Aviv, and Fanny Lawaetz from Stockholm. The pair have a direct vision when it comes to their work, stating that: “There is no aesthetic division between him or her, old or young, and we do not label ourselves and our garments. Therefore, the collections that we create are not labeled according to season, time, gender or size.” Their latest offering for A/W 15 (although they don’t declare it as such) adheres strongly to this ethos. Using the most ambiguous of colours; black permeates the collection. With a distinctly avant-garde feel, UY draws inspiration from Scandinavia. Their silhouettes are minimal and clean cut, using the most simplistic of fabrics. The asymmetry and ripped detailing on certain garments give a recognisable edge to otherwise basic creations. With hooded features, the dresses and bodysuits for both genders, echo monk’s robes; the works are a rejection of sensuality in any form.
