Japanese designer Yuta Yajima brings Tarkovsky’s 1962 film, Ivan’s Chilhood, to current times through his latest menswear offering entitled SOUL ASYLUM. The story is focused around a boy who is torn between past and present, war and peace, happiness and pain. That is translated beautifully into the designs which feature several military references that feel neither dated nor predictable. The Japan-made white denim embellished with satin ribbons, creates a new impression of military wear that is conventionally seen as rugged and coarse. The t-shirt series takes hints from the same theme with several straps, gun pouches, ribbon decorations and bag-like pockets – making their appearance. Yajima’s new vision of fashion was captured brilliantly in a very youth-oriented lookbook which can be found below.
